Compass Mining raises hosting costs by 15%

Without any official announcement, Compass Mining raises hosting costs by 15% today. The rates are going from $0.065/KWh to $0.075/KWh. There was no official announcement, however the CEO of the company Whitt Gibbs shared this news on Compass Mining discord channel today at 9:00am

Compass mining hosting costs increase

With this price increase, the costs are now essentially on par with costs in Russia with Wattum. However they are still below Wattum’s USA hosting facilities rates, which are ranging from $0.084 to $0.089/KWh.

Right after the announcement on discord, Compass customers asked several questions about this change. Since there was no official announcement with the news or FAQ, lots of customers do not know how is this going to effect existing customers, or customers trying to sell their miners on Compass Marketplace

Here are some of the questions asked by Compass customers:

  • Did that just happen today? And how will that effect existing miners?
  • Will there be an official announcement about the changes?
  • Is hosting price increase going to affect marketplace purchased miners?
  • I sell a miner will it still be tied to the current hosting rate I have on my yearly contract, or does the buyer assume the new rate?
  • If I buy a used miner is there a way to tell how long the current hosting rate contract is for?
As of now, it doesn’t seem like any official Compass representative answered any of these questions.
